Clemons Library’s 1st Floor

We are named after the first floor of the Clemons Library at the University of Virginia, where our founder spent many hours reading company filings, business stories, and investment letters. Our core investment philosophy originated at Clemons.

We stand on the shoulders of the likes of Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Peter Drucker, Michael Ritinski, and many other exceptional investors and business-thinkers from whom we have learned over the years. CL1 Partners is our attempt to bring these learnings to life.

We view businesses as social institutions. In all our investments, we seek companies without which we believe customers would be structurally worse-off. We then help these businesses drive even more value to customers while maintaining best-in-class profitability and operational efficiency. We view customer obsession as mandatory.

After our founder left the US for family-related reasons, he spent time investing on his own, as well as consulting local companies in Kazakhstan on strategy and operations. After several years, he founded CL1 Partners to serve as a long-term vehicle for investing across various asset classes.

At CL1 Partners, our single underlying principle is doing what is right. We believe good morals is good business. The “Partners” in our name reflects our approach — we treat our employees and managers as true partners, and seek to bring this term to life through equity ownership.
